DescriptionΠεριγραφηBeschrijving

In commemoration of the Greek revolution of 1821, every year at the same time, the villagers, as well as people from all over Rhodes, gather in the church of Agios Georgios [St. George], where, after the mass, a parade begins.  The procession follows young men and women who, dressed in traditional costumes and carrying the icons of Virgin Mary and Agios Georgios [St. George], march by the flag of Greece. The crowd goes round the village holding lit torches in their hands, in an atmosphere filled with devout concentration and strong emotions. The route ends at the village square where a dance event is set up and one can enjoy herbal tea and various local dishes.
